Life without ambition is boring. Revel in delusions of grandeur. It drives entrepreneurs everywhere.
I’ve created this site because I’m blessed with a small ton of archival material and interesting stories to tell from all over the place. The ambition is to package them in a way that is interesting.
To be trendy, these should be pithy videos on TikTok, but I grew up making the open web and love the persistence of a blog. And the enduring, physical nature of a book.
Of course it would be great of one of these catches fire and becomes a hit movie, but it is also fine if it is only looked over by my friends and family. Attention is all you need.
Pan America – Boston to Rio
In 1954 my father and his French roommate decided to drive from Boston to Rio de Janeiro in an MG convertible. And then did. They did press stops, were arrested during the revolution in Guatemala, broke down in Bolivia, and stumbled into the funeral of Getúlio Vargas in Brazil. A summer break worth remembering.
A Professor’s Perspective
In 2022, my uncle retired but like many academics still wanted to publish. We realized that for years he had been sending us essays on the Presidents that he published in a local Western Pennsylvania magazine. We pulled together the old essays, and brought in a bunch of new ones to cover all of the 45 men who had been president.
Here & There — Mostly There
In 1994, my grandmother finished reading Katherine Hepburn’s Me and decided she should write up the stories from her life of traveling. She talks about 17 trips, from a Grand Tour in 1926 to China 1982 and, of course, Bermuda.
AIRINC – An Accidental Tourist
In 1990 I started work with a consulting company in Harvard Square called Associates for International Research, Inc. Over the next four years I traveled international four times a year, each trip 6-10 cities, with two domestic trips as well. Still working on the photos and notes, but there were more than one interesting story.
